Romeu formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2011, with Guilherme do Valle on vocals and guitarists Pedro Lucas and Thiago Martins. Their self-titled EP came out in 2013, and they built a following with a sound that mixed indie pop and folk with Brazilian rhythms. The 2015 album 'Antes de Ir' brought them wider attention, especially the title track featuring Taty Pink, which became a hit.
Do Valle's lyrics and public comments on social issues sometimes drew criticism from conservative listeners, but the band kept working. Their 2018 album 'Aurora' turned more introspective, dealing with love and loss. Over the next few years, drummer Felipe Dias and bassist Arthur de Faria left the lineup, though Romeu continued to record and perform.
