Ronaldo Bôscoli

Ronaldo Bôscoli was born in São Paulo in 1928. He started writing songs in the late 1950s, working with people like Vinicius de Moraes, Baden Powell, and Carlos Lyra during the early days of bossa nova. That movement mixed Brazilian rhythms with jazz, and Bôscoli was there helping shape it.

He wrote lyrics that felt more like poetry than typical pop songs. 'O Barquinho,' which he wrote with Vinicius de Moraes in 1961, became one of his best-known pieces, a quiet song about a little boat drifting alone. Other songs like 'A Morte de um Deus de Sal' and 'Saudade fez um samba' show the same careful, thoughtful approach to words.

Bôscoli recorded several albums, including 'Canta e toca para o amor nascer' in 1961 and a self-titled record in 1964. He sometimes worked with singers like Nara Leão and Astrud Gilberto. He kept writing and performing until his death in 1994.
