Rooster formed in São Paulo in the late 1970s as a quartet with Paulo Ricardo on vocals and guitar, Luis Sérgio Carlini on bass, Marco Avedikian on drums, and Débora Blando on keyboards. Their debut album 'Stress, Destruição e Sofrimento' came out in 1984, with the title track becoming an early rock anthem in Brazil.
Their 1985 album 'Anjos E Palhaços' gave them their most enduring song. The album also included 'Angels Calling' and 'Come Get Some,' showing their range from melodic rock to harder-edged material.
By the late 1980s, as Brazilian music trends shifted, Rooster's popularity declined. Paulo Ricardo began a solo career in 1989, which led to the band going on hiatus. They returned in the 2000s with tours and new recordings, though their early work from that São Paulo period remains what most fans remember.
