Roper formed in Stockholm in 2013, originally as three childhood friends: Jakob Eklund on vocals and guitar, Jakob Herrmann on drums, and Max Hult on bass. They put out their self-titled debut album in 2015, which included the song '1985' as its lead track. That song became their most recognizable piece, though it also drew some accusations of sounding too much like the Swedish band Kent. Roper denied those claims.
After Herrmann left in 2015, Anton Sundell joined on drums. Their second album, 'Sour Punch,' came out in 2017 and took a more experimental turn. They followed it with 'Someday' in 2020, which they described as a return to their earlier sound. Other songs in their catalog include 'Amplify,' 'Day Of Pigs,' 'Fireflies,' and 'Hello Lamewads.'
