Rosas em Sangue formed in 1997 when childhood friends Flávio Leal and Fernando Cunha started playing music together. They were joined by bassist Beto Garcia and drummer André Macedo, and spent their early years playing shows around Brazil. Their sound mixed heavy metal with grunge and alternative rock, which didn't always sit well with critics at first.
In 2003, they released their debut album 'Encontrar a Si Mesmo,' named after the song that would become one of their most recognizable tracks. The album's lyrics about mental health and personal struggles connected with listeners, though some critics found the themes too dark. The band kept writing about similar territory on songs like 'Gelo e Fogo' and 'Nossos Corações.'
They followed that album with several others through the 2000s and early 2010s, including 'Ilusão de Ótica' in 2006 and 'Tempestade' in 2013. Their music gradually incorporated more progressive rock and electronic elements while keeping Leal's vocals and Cunha's guitar work at the center.
