Roy Acuff Jr. was born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1935. He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1962 and worked as a solo artist, sometimes collaborating with his father Roy Acuff Sr. and brother Jimmy Acuff.
His 1966 song "I Wish It Were Me" became his best-known recording. He released albums like The Sound of Roy Acuff Jr. in 1965 and The Father and Son Sessions with his father in 1971.
Acuff died in 1993. Some of his recordings were compiled on The Best of Roy Acuff Jr. the following year.
