Ruam Tavares formed in 2007 with friends who shared an interest in funk carioca, the Rio de Janeiro funk style. Their debut single "Tá Na Mira" came out in 2010 and caught on quickly, becoming a national hit. That song and others like "FAMO$O" helped establish them as a popular funk act in Brazil.
They've released four studio albums, starting with Tá Na Rua in 2010 and continuing through O Que Eu Vejo in 2016. In 2016, the band was involved in a legal dispute with Rede Globo over copyright claims, which was settled out of court. Their lyrics and performances have drawn criticism at times, sparking conversations about artistic expression in Brazilian music.
