Ruídos do Rock came out of São Paulo's underground in the late 1980s. Their song 'Besteira' became a kind of anthem for a certain kind of Brazilian punk, a direct shot at political hypocrisy that got under the skin of authorities. The band, Rodrigo 'Digão' Ferreira on vocals, Fábio 'Fibuca' de Oliveira on guitar, Eduardo 'Barone' Ferreira on bass, and Andre 'Andrezinho' Guimarães on drums, kept things raw and confrontational.
They ran into trouble pretty quickly. In 1988, they were arrested for playing in a public park without a permit. Record labels and radio stations often refused to touch their material, which made their early albums like 1987's self-titled debut and 1989's 'O Bicho Vai Pegar' feel like underground artifacts. Their shows sometimes ended with police intervention.
They kept putting out records through the '90s, including 'Papo Reto' in 1991 and the 'Besteira' album in 1993. The music never really softened, staying focused on social inequality and corruption. They released a 20th-anniversary album in 2007, but it's that early, scrappy period, and that one sharp song, that people remember.
