R'Zancchet

R'Zancchet formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1978 with Glauco Mattoso on vocals and percussion, Sérgio Ricardo on guitar, André Abujamra on keyboards, and Marco Antônio Guimarães on bass. They released their self-titled debut album in 1980, which included the surrealist track "A Utilidade do Corpo." Other songs from their catalog include "Amanheceu," "Comida Enlatada," and "O Bonitão do Maracanã."

Their music drew from rock, jazz, and Brazilian folk elements, though it avoided straightforward categorization. The band's arrangements were often complex, and their lyrics could be unconventional. They continued recording through the 1980s and 1990s, putting out albums like Último Suspiro in 1981, Deus in 1983, and A Casa dos Velhos in 1994.

R'Zancchet's approach sometimes drew criticism for being too challenging or provocative, but they kept working on their own terms. Later releases included A Pele do Tambor in 2000 and O Circo do Mundo in 2005. They marked their 30th anniversary with a live recording in 2008.
