SABAC was a soul group that formed in Los Angeles in the 1960s. The band included vocalist and guitarist Sonny Jones, bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, drummer Al Jackson Jr., and keyboardist Booker T. Jones. Their sound drew from gospel, blues, and jazz, and they released albums like "Soul Finger" and "Green Onions" in 1962.
In 1964, SABAC recorded Sam Cooke's "A Change Gon' Come," which became associated with the Civil Rights Movement. The song's lyrics spoke to social issues of the time. Other tracks in their catalog include "As Children Cry," "Darkness Deepens," and "Sabacolypse."
Booker T. Jones left the band in 1967 to work on solo projects. SABAC's music combined instrumental grooves with socially conscious themes, heard in songs like "Speak Militant" and "Positive & Negative."
