Background notes

Archive material and source history

Sabandijas formed in Bogotá in the late 1990s, playing a mix of ska, punk, and Colombian folk. Their lineup included Mario Duarte on vocals and guitar, Camilo Duarte on bass, Jaime Andrés Ospina on drums, Juan José Botero on saxophone, and Andrés Rojas on trumpet. They released their first self-titled album in 2001.

Their lyrics often addressed political and social issues, which sometimes led to friction. The 2007 album "Sabandijas" included a track called "El Presidente" that criticized then-President Álvaro Uribe. Other albums followed, like "Buen Partir" in 2010 and "Superación Personal" in 2013.

One of their best-known songs is "Buen Partir," a tribute to the late singer-songwriter Juan Manuel Roca. Other tracks like "La Reina Del Show" and "Todo Mal" also appear in their catalog. They put out "La Sinfonía del Sapo" in 2016.
