Sabbat formed in Birmingham in the late 1970s, originally called Cyclops before changing their name in 1978. Their early lineup included Martin Walkyier on vocals, Andy Sneap on guitar, Dave Ingram on bass, and Simon Negus on drums. They were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene, though their sound had a darker edge than many of their peers.
They followed it with albums like 'Dreamweaver (Reflections of Our Yesterdays)' in 1987 and 'Mourning Has Broken' in 1989. Songs like 'A Cautionary Tale' and 'Behind The Crooked Cross' showed their preference for atmospheric, thematically heavy material.
Sabbat broke up in 1991, with members moving on to other projects. Walkyier and Sneap worked separately, while Ingram and Negus formed Benediction. The band reunited in 2006 with Sneap returning on guitar.
