Sabedoria Nahtiva formed in São Paulo in the early 2010s around rapper Vitor Gaffa, with bassist Pedro Passos and drummer Guilherme Granado. They started making music that mixed conscious rap with jazz and soul elements, working without much funding in a competitive scene.
Their 2014 debut album 'Conexão Natural' established their sound, followed by later releases like 'Da Minha Terra Pra Tua' in 2017. Some of their lyrics addressing social issues and criticizing the government drew criticism from conservative groups, but also connected with listeners who felt marginalized.
Songs like 'Baseado de Fatos Reais' and 'Estilo Hippiezinha' show their style, introspective rapping over jazz-inflected arrangements. The band kept recording through 2020 with 'Baseado de Fatos Reais' serving as both an album title and a track that typifies their approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
