Sacra Arcana formed in Ireland in the early 2000s, bringing together musicians with backgrounds in traditional Celtic music. The group included singer and songwriter Séamus Begley, harpist Maireád Ní Mhaonaigh, fiddler and vocalist Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, and guitarist and vocalist Gavin Friday.
Their first album, simply called 'Sacra Arcana,' came out in 2003. They followed it with 'Wayfaring Stranger' in 2005 and 'Song of the Sea' in 2008, which drew from Irish coastal themes.
They're known for their version of the Irish folk song 'Round the Fields of Athenry,' a piece about the Great Famine that has sometimes drawn attention for its subject matter. Other songs in their catalog include 'Fekete Sereg,' 'Isten Kardja,' and 'Miller's Tale.'
