Sacrament formed in Sweden in 2007 with Nicke Andersson on vocals, Kristian Niemann and Fred Estby on guitars, Johnny Dordevic on bass, and Tobias Gustafsson on drums. Their debut album 'Blood Bath' came out in 2009, named after what would become one of their most recognized songs. The record established their sound with Andersson's guttural vocals over sharp guitars and relentless drumming.
Niemann left the band in 2010, followed by Dordevic in 2011. They were replaced by guitarist Herman Wiberg and bassist Ludwig Witt. In 2012, Andersson and Gustafsson faced plagiarism accusations from the Norwegian band Mayhem regarding similarities between Sacrament's 'Chaos Born' and Mayhem's 'Freezing Moon'. The band defended their work and continued performing.
