Editor's note

Sacrifice kept Toronto thrash fast and heavy

A Canadian thrash metal band that formed in 1984 and kept recording through lineup changes and a hiatus.

For a sense of their sound, try 'Forever Enslaved' from 'The Ones' or the early track 'Beyond Death.' Both show that relentless pace they never really left behind.

Sacrifice carved out a place in the thrash metal scene with albums like 'Torment in Fire' in 1987. Their second album 'Forward to Termination' drew attention for its graphic cover art showing an abortion procedure. Songs like 'Decapitation' and 'Hiroshima' show how their sound stayed rooted in fast, heavy thrash across decades.

They formed in 1984 from the remains of another Toronto band called Slaughter. After their first album in 1987, they kept recording through the early '90s with albums like 'Apocalypse Inside' and 'The Ones.' A hiatus started in 1999, but they returned in 2006 and put out two more records.

Sacrifice formed in 1984 from the remains of another Toronto band called Slaughter. The original lineup had Rob Urbinati on vocals, Scott Watts on guitar, Mike Swift on bass, and Gus Pynn on drums. Their first album, 'Torment in Fire,' came out in 1987 and found a place in the thrash metal scene.

Their second album, 'Forward to Termination,' drew attention for its graphic cover art showing an abortion procedure.
