Sacrilege formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1983 with Mike Wead on vocals and guitar. They released three albums in the late 80s and early 90s, starting with 1985's 'Behind the Realms of Madness' and ending with 1990's 'The Fifth Season'.
Their song 'Sweet Moment of Triumph' from that final album became something of an anthem for the band. Other tracks like 'Beyound The Gates Of Pain' and 'Crying Statues Of Paleness And Ice' show their taste for dramatic, wintry titles and heavy metal intensity.
Sacrilege had a shifting lineup over their active years, with members including Peter Johansson on guitar, Anders Lindmark on bass, and Mats Nordlund on drums. They never broke through to major commercial success, but developed a following among Swedish metal listeners who appreciated their uncompromising approach.
