Saê Matos formed in 2016 as a trio of siblings, Saê, Tiganá, and Ian Matos, from Salvador in northeastern Brazil. Their music pulls from funk, samba, and reggae, a mix that gives their songs a steady, danceable groove. In 2018, they put out the track "Seguro," which became a hit but also drew accusations of plagiarism from some listeners who thought it sounded too close to a dancehall tune. The band denied copying anyone.
They released a self-titled album in 2017 and followed it with "Raiz" in 2020. That same year, another song, "O Mundo Tá Girando," stirred debate for its lyrics about Brazil's pandemic response and political corruption. Their writing sometimes touches on love and social themes, set against those Brazilian rhythms with a bit of hip-hop and pop in the blend.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
