Saetia formed on Long Island in 1994 with Billy Werner on vocals, Jamie Ackerman and Greg Drudy on guitars, Adam Marino on bass, and Greg Thomas on drums. They put out their debut EP 'The Song of Lamentation' the following year. Their sound was built on angular guitar work and Werner's personal, introspective lyrics.
In 1997 they released the full-length album 'A Deep and Dreamless Sleep'. It became a touchstone for the post-hardcore scene of that era. Songs like 'Venus And Bacchus' and 'The Sweetness And The Light' captured their raw, visceral approach. Their live shows were known for their intensity, with Werner's volatile stage presence becoming part of their reputation.
They didn't last long as a band, but the material they left behind, including tracks like 'Corporeal' and 'One Dyingwish', continued to resonate. Their relatively small discography carried a weight that felt outsized for its time.
