Safety Orange formed in Portland, Oregon in 2013 with Michael Guy Chislett on vocals and guitar, Justin Jolley on bass, and Alex Dezen on drums. Their first album came out that same year, simply called 'Safety Orange.'
In 2015, Dezen left the band and was replaced by drummer Mike Frattini. They released their second album 'A Flight and a Crash' in 2017. Songs like 'Harmony' and 'Steppin Out' show their mix of indie rock and folk elements.
In 2019, while Chislett was dealing with a serious cancer diagnosis, the band put out their third album 'Facsimile.' The track 'To Save a Man' appears on that record. They've kept a steady presence without much flash, just three albums over about six years.
