Archive material and source history
Safira formed in 1986 as a trio of siblings from São Paulo: Jonas Vilar, Kelly Vilar, and João Marcos Vilar. They started making Christian music together, putting out their first self-titled album that same year.
Their song 'Com Jesus Vou Caminhar' became particularly well-known in Brazilian Christian circles. Another track, 'Nosso Amor é Perfeito,' also found an audience. They kept recording through the 1990s and early 2000s, with albums like 'Nas Ondas do Amor' in 1995 and a live record in 2004.
Early on, their use of electric guitars was considered unconventional for the gospel scene at the time. The Vilar siblings also worked on solo projects outside the group, with Jonas and Kelly each releasing albums under their own names.
