Safo Rock formed in Madrid in 2005 with María Boto on vocals, Eva Díaz on guitar, Ana Segura on bass, and Vero Robles on drums. They were a female-fronted rock band that faced dismissive attitudes in the music industry, sometimes being labeled as 'angry girls' or 'feminist propaganda.'
Their debut album 'Sentido' came out in 2009, with the title track becoming something of an anthem. They followed it with 'La Luz' in 2012 and 'El Sonido del Silencio' in 2016, often writing about gender inequality and social justice.
In 2014, a music video for their song 'Di No' was censored by Spanish authorities over its depiction of sexual assault. Their performances sometimes drew protests and threats from anti-feminist groups, but they kept playing and speaking out.
