G.R.E.S. Acadêmicos do Salgueiro is a samba school from Rio de Janeiro that competes in the city's Carnival parade. Their performances are built around samba-enredos, which are theme songs that tell a story through music and lyrics. Some of their notable samba-enredos include 'Dona Beja, a Feiticeira de Araxá' from 1968, 'Chico Rei' from 1964, and 'Eneida, Amor e Fantasia' from 1973.
In 2023, Salgueiro presented 'Delírios De Um Paraíso Vermelho' at the Marquês de Sapucaí, the main parade venue. The song was written by composers Marcelinho Beija-Flor and Bruno Souza. Other songs in their catalog include 'Mar de Vermelho e Branco', 'Flor Misteriosa', and 'Lua Sobre Sangue'.
Salgueiro's members have included vocalist and composer Marcelinho Beija-Flor, composer Bruno Souza, Mestre-Sala Viviane Araújo, and Porta-Bandeira Sidclei Santos. The school has released albums such as 'Samba é Nosso Nome' in 1995, 'O canto é da terra' in 1999, and 'De Volta a Alegria' in 2005.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
