Sam Five was a Brazilian rock band that formed in 1997. Their debut album came out in 1999, featuring the song "Não Sou o Mesmo de Antes." The track became something of an anthem, with lyrics about change and self-discovery that connected with listeners.
Renato Russo was the band's vocalist and lyricist. He died in 2002 at age 34. The group disbanded not long after that, though they did reunite for some tribute concerts in 2013.
