A Montreal singer-songwriter whose rock with folk touches has defined Canadian airwaves for two decades.
For a quick sense of his style, try 'Where Have All the Good People Gone?' and 'Hard Road'. They get at what he does best.
Sam Roberts' songs have a way of sticking around. 'Where Have All the Good People Gone?' became a Canadian hit in 2004, and his catalog is full of tracks like 'Hard Road' and 'The Bootleg Saint' that feel lived-in. He writes about specific places, 'Detroit '67', 'Bridge To Nowhere', but the feeling is universal.
He started writing early in Montreal and formed a band in 1998. Their debut 'Brother Down' arrived in 2003, followed by the breakthrough 'We Were Born in a Flame'. After guitarist Dave Nugent left in 2007, Roberts kept making albums like 'Chemical City' and 'Love at the End of the World'.

Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
