Samba 10 formed in São Paulo in the early 1990s, bringing together musicians like vocalist Sandra de Sá, percussionist Marcos Suzano, and guitarist Luizão. Their first album came out in 1994, mixing samba with pop and Brazilian popular music. They had a hit with "Deixa / Eu Me Apaixonei Pela Pessoa Errada," a song about unrequited love that became one of their best-known tracks.
In the late 1990s, Sandra de Sá was diagnosed with cancer and took time away from the band. Samba 10 kept recording through that period, putting out albums like Batucada do Coração in 1996 and Nova Fase in 2004. Their songs often leaned into straightforward pop-samba grooves, as you can hear on tracks like "Amor Gostoso" and "É Bom."
They never became a household name outside Brazil, but they maintained a steady presence in the São Paulo scene with a core lineup that stayed mostly intact. Their later work included the song "Parar o Mundo (Um Segundo)" and the more rhythmic "Piriguete," keeping to their blend of accessible melodies and percussive samba foundations.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
