Samba Gol formed in Salvador, Bahia, in the late 1990s. The group included Tony Salles on vocals, Alan Silveira on guitar, Márcia Freire on percussion, Júnior Bastos on bass, and Emerson Oliveira on keyboards. Their music pulled from samba, axé, and sertanejo, and they put out their first album in 2000.
That debut included the song 'Escrito Nas Estrelas,' which got them noticed across Brazil. They followed it with other tracks like 'Ícone da Felicidade' and 'Minha Fã.'
In 2006, they had a legal fight over the rights to their music, which they won. Tony Salles was arrested in 2013 after an incident with a security guard.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
