Sambaxé formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1994 around brothers Alexandre and Rafael Pizzonia. They started playing local bars and clubs, building a following with their samba sound. Their debut album 'Nação Sambaxé' came out in 1999.
The band's song 'Um Lance Pra Durar' became particularly well-known. Other tracks like 'Um Beijo e Sorri' and 'Tempo de amar' show their range within the samba tradition. The core lineup has included Alexandre Pizzonia on vocals and percussion, Rafael Pizzonia on vocals and cavaquinho, Marcelo Pupi on drums, Léo Caldas on bass, and Márcio Regis on percussion.
