Sami Duque came up in Cali, Colombia, where he started singing in churches and local gatherings. He formed his own band, drawing from salsa's golden era, and put out songs like "Como Rosalia" and "Borrando." Some critics questioned how traditional his music was, but he kept working with his own approach.
His brother Antonio Duque has been the musical director, with percussionist Omar Moreno and pianist Jorge Herrera also in the band. They recorded albums like "El Internacional" in 1989, "El Dueño de la Calle" in 1994, and "Cali Compa" in 2000. Other tracks include "La Cura," "Injusto," and "Carmela."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
