Samukaah formed in 2005 in Salvador, Bahia, around guitarist and vocalist Samuca Duarte and percussionist Kahê Inoz. They started playing local bars and small venues, working through the usual early struggles of a new band. Their debut album came out in 2009, and the single "Cada Vez" from that record connected with listeners and helped push them to a wider audience.
Over the next several years, they put out more albums like "Pra Viajar no Mundo" in 2011 and "Tudo É Pra Já" in 2015. They also worked with other Brazilian artists, including Ivete Sangalo and Carlinhos Brown.
In 2014, the band dealt with a plagiarism claim over their song "Não Vai Voltar," a legal issue that was eventually resolved. Their sound pulled from samba and reggae rhythms, delivered with a pop sensibility that fit comfortably on Brazilian radio.
