SAMURAI formed in Mexico City in 1993 with Siddhartha Karg and Carlos Lieja. Their 2000 track 'Bonita' became an international hit, mixing electronic textures with Latin rhythms. Other songs like 'Tiempos de Guerra' and 'Jump into another world' show their range across danceable and more introspective moods.
They released albums including 'Luz de Noche' in 1997, 'Despues del Huracan' in 2003, and 'Fractal' in 2007. The band's lineup has included Ruben Albarran on drums alongside Karg and Lieja. Their sound doesn't fit neatly into either traditional Latin or electronic categories, which has sometimes drawn skepticism from purists in both scenes.
In 2005, a leaked video showing what appeared to be drug use caused a media uproar. The band apologized and kept making music. They've continued putting out records, with 'Genesis' arriving in 2017.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
