Sancamaleón formed in Barcelona in the early 2000s as a trio with Olvido Gara Jova on vocals, Fernando Pardo on guitar, and Alicia San Juan on bass. Their name combines the Spanish words for 'holy' and 'chameleon,' which fits their shifting musical approach. They released four albums between 2003 and 2012, starting with 'Abre tu Boca' in 2003.
Their song 'Abrí Tu Boca' became a breakout hit in Spain, though their lyrics about social issues and politics sometimes sparked debate. Other tracks like 'Adios' and 'Corso narcotizado' show their range across those albums. Their sound pulled from Spanish traditions, rock, and electronic music without settling into one style.
They worked collaboratively on songwriting, with Pardo handling composition and Jova writing lyrics. The band stopped releasing music after 2012, leaving behind those four studio records that document their decade of activity.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
