Sancnity

Sanctuary formed in Seattle in the mid-1980s around guitarist Lenny Rutledge and vocalist Warrel Dane, with bassist Jim Sheppard, guitarist Jeff Loomis, and drummer Dave Budbill completing the lineup. Their debut album 'Refuge Denied' came out in 1988, but it was 1990's 'Into the Mirror Black' that really defined their sound. That album included 'Autumn Leaves,' a track that became something of an anthem for the band.

They kept recording through the 1990s with albums like 'Reared in Anger' and 'The Year the Sun Died,' and their lineup shifted over time. Drummer Randy Black replaced Budbill after the second album, and other musicians like guitarist Sean Blosl and drummer Nick Barker passed through. They worked with producer Terry Date, who had credits with Pantera and Soundgarden.

After disbanding in 2001, Sanctuary reformed in 2010 with Rutledge, Dane, and Sheppard. They released 'The Shadow of the Sun' in 2014. Warrel Dane died in 2017.
