Sanctifier was a metal band from Iraq that drew on Mesopotamian mythology for their lyrics and themes. Their song "Zi Dingir Kia Kanpa" became something of an anthem for their following, with its heavy guitars and references to ancient Babylonian spirits. The band's lineup included Nabil al-Assadi on vocals, Jamal Hammudi on guitar, Karim al-Basri on bass, and Ahmed al-Kadhimi on drums.
Their exploration of occult and ancient themes sometimes put them at odds with more conservative elements in Iraqi society. They kept working despite the friction, building a catalog that included tracks like "Abominations Rise" and "Al Azif - The Canticle Of Magicians."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
