Sandra Cires was born in Havana, Cuba in 1963. She started singing in her church choir as a child, and later formed a band called Extraños. Her debut album 'Dame una Sonrisa' came out in 1988, with the title track becoming her most recognizable song.
In the early 1990s, she faced restrictions on performing in Cuba and spent time working in Spain. She kept recording through that period, putting out albums like 'Rompiendo Cadenas' and 'Entre la Luna y el Mar.' Other songs from her catalog include 'Dementes' and 'Paso de Cristal.'
Her band Extraños has included musicians like Gustavo Veliz on guitar and Amaury Pérez on bass. She recorded with artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat and Pablo Milanés, who was one of her early influences.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
