Sandra Nascimento was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1958. She started singing with the band As Frenéticas when she was sixteen. In 1980 she went solo, and her first album included the song 'Nada Vai Me Parar,' which became a hit in Brazil.
She kept recording through the 1980s, putting out albums like 'Sandra e Banda' and 'Uma Nova História.' Her music sometimes got her into trouble, she was known for being outspoken, and in 1986 she caused a stir by posing nude for a magazine cover. She worked with other Brazilian musicians including Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso.
Songs like 'Só Por Causa de Você' and 'Nada Vai Me Parar' stayed in her set lists. She didn't really fit the usual pop mold, but she kept singing her own way.
