Sandra Nasic joined Guano Apes in 1994, singing for the German rock band alongside guitarist Henning Rümenapp, bassist Stefan Ude, and drummer Dennis Poschwatta. Their debut album 'Proud Like a God' came out in 1996, and the single 'Open Your Eyes' became a hit in Germany. The band's sound mixed rock with metal and pop elements, which found an audience without needing much polish.
In 2000, Guano Apes released 'Big City,' a song about urban alienation that became their biggest international success. The band followed with albums like 'Walking on a Thin Line' in 2003 and 'Bel Air' in 2006, keeping their hard-edged approach while exploring different textures.
Nasic's lyrics and public statements sometimes drew criticism, particularly after she commented on the German government's response to the September 11 attacks in 2002. Her direct style in both singing and speaking gave the band a confrontational edge that suited their music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
