Sandro Destro Lima came up in Rio de Janeiro, where he started playing music as a teenager. He formed the rock band Banda Destro in the late 1990s, playing local venues and building a following. The group's sound drew from samba and rock, and Destro's raw vocals were a central part of it.
In 2002, the band released the single "Amor Branco e Grená," a song dedicated to the Fluminense football club. It became a hit, pushing the band to national attention. Other songs from that period include "Ocaso Pensado" and "Vem Brilhando, Minha Estrela."
Destro has worked with other Brazilian artists like Elza Soares and Chico Buarque. The band's lineup has changed over time, with guitarists Fael Mondego and Marcelo Habib, bassist Pedro Dias, and drummer Alex Marinho playing in recent years. Destro's outspoken views on social and political issues have sometimes drawn public attention alongside his music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
