Sanford formed in Springfield, Illinois in 2001 with John Waller on vocals, Todd Agnew on guitar, Joel Piper on bass, and Chris Eaton on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 2003, followed by 'The Beauty of Doubt' in 2005.
Their third album, 'Smoke From A Distant Fire,' came out in 2006. The title track became their most recognizable song, getting significant play on Christian radio. Agnew left the band in 2008 to work on solo material.
After Agnew's departure, Sanford kept recording and touring. They put out 'Invisible' in 2010, 'This Is Our Time' in 2015, and 'Bold & Brave' in 2019.
