Santiago Del Nuevo Extremo

Santiago Del Nuevo Extremo formed in 1992 when a group of musicians from Santiago came together. They worked through early financial constraints while mainstream pop dominated the local scene. Their debut album arrived in 1996, anchored by the title track 'A Mi Ciudad,' which became something of an anthem in Chile.

That song, 'A Mi Ciudad,' was a heartfelt ode to their city. The band's music often drew from traditional Andean rhythms while using modern instrumentation. They released several albums after that, including 'Mar Desierto' in 1999 and 'Angelmomio' in 2002.

At times their work sparked discussion, like with the song 'Sube a Nacer Conmigo Hermano,' which some read as having political content. They collaborated with artists including Mercedes Sosa.
