Santiago Feliu was born in Havana in 1962 and studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte. He released his first album, "Créeme," in 1985, followed by records like "Para Bárbara" in 1987 and "Náuseas de Fin de Siglo" in 1995. His songs often dealt with personal struggle and social themes, which sometimes drew attention from Cuban authorities.
Feliu worked with other Cuban musicians including Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, and Noel Nicola. He kept recording through the 2000s with albums like "Sostener Mi Amor" in 2006, which shares its name with one of his better-known songs. Other tracks like "Angeles de Mi" and "Ay, La Vida" show his style of writing about everyday life with a plainspoken weight.
He died in 2014. His music stays in circulation partly because it doesn't try to be grand, it's just a man with a guitar, singing about what he sees.
