Santo Castro e Suzanito were a Colombian duo from Cali who started playing in the 1970s. Their song "Horas Amargas" became widely known across Latin America, particularly in Mexican ranchera circles. They released albums like "Los Grandes Exitos" in 1975 and "Horas Amargas" the following year.
Castro handled vocals while Suzanito played accordion. Their music often dealt with heartbreak and longing, as heard in songs like "Maldita Saudade" and "Filhos de Minha Alma." They kept recording through the late 1970s and into the 1980s with albums such as "Camino del Cielo" and "El Ultimo Adios."
In 1976, Castro was arrested on drug charges, which complicated their career at a time when they were gaining popularity. They continued working despite this setback. Their recordings, especially "Horas Amargas," remained in circulation long after they stopped being active as a duo.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
