Sara Bentes

Sara Bentes is a Brazilian vocalist and guitarist who works in the choro tradition. Her 2005 self-titled debut album included both traditional pieces and her own compositions, and she followed it with records like 2010's "Choro na Mangueira" and 2019's "Saravá Choro."

Her song "Choro Sara" became particularly well-known, and her setlist often includes tracks like "A Volta," "Horizonte Distante," and "Casa Pré-fabricada." She performs with a small ensemble that typically features a seven-string guitarist, a pandeiro player, and a cavaquinho player alongside her own guitar.

Some listeners felt her smoother vocal style represented a departure from choro's rougher emotional roots, but she continued performing and recording within the genre. Her work draws from the influence of earlier choro figures such as Pixinguinha and Jacob do Bandolim.
