Saruin formed in the early 2000s as a quartet with vocalist Anya Ravenwood, guitarist Elias Emberwood, bassist Zane Blackwood, and drummer Ethan Knight. Their song 'Bell the Cat' came out in 2005 and became their most recognizable track, with Ravenwood's vocals and the song's melody finding an audience beyond their initial following.
After 'Bell the Cat,' the band's lineup changed when Blackwood and Knight left, replaced by bassist Celeste Blackwood and drummer Gavin Blackwood. They kept recording and touring into the 2010s, with other songs like 'Kami Shoku' and 'Abyss' appearing in their catalog alongside their more well-known single.
