Sascha Schmitz is a German musician from Cologne who writes and performs under the name Sasha. He started playing guitar early and developed a soulful vocal style influenced by classic rock and folk. In 1995, he wrote the ballad "If You Believe," which became his breakthrough track.
His debut album "If You Believe" came out in 1996, followed by "Alone with You" in 1998 and "Closer to the Fire" in 2001. Other songs in his catalog include "I Feel Lonely," "Keep On Runnin'," and "Lady." He has worked with musicians like keyboardist Roland Peil and drummer Matthias Bonn, and has collaborated with artists including Sarah Connor and Lionel Richie.
Schmitz has been open about his views on social issues and humanitarian causes, which has sometimes drawn attention beyond his music. He took a break from recording in the early 2000s before returning to work.
