Satellite formed in New York City in the early 2000s around vocalist Sarah Blackwood and producer Michael Cina. Their debut album 'Satellite' came out in 2005, featuring the track 'Heads Will Roll' that became something of an anthem in the electroclash scene at the time.
Cina left the project in 2007, leaving Blackwood as the consistent member. She worked with various collaborators afterward, including producer Ben Grosse on their second album 'Ultraviolet' in 2008. The band released several more records over the following years, including 'Third' in 2012 and 'Island Windows' in 2017.
Their sound drew from electroclash's mix of electronic production and punk attitude. Songs like 'Oh, Carry On' and 'Ring The Bells' carried that forward through the lineup changes. Blackwood kept the project going, releasing a compilation called 'The Collection' in 2020.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
