Sátirus

Sátirus formed in São Paulo in the late 1990s around vocalist Sandro Abend and guitarist Sergio Pompeu. Their sound drew from dark romanticism and Gothic literature, with the works of Lord Byron serving as a particular touchstone. They released their self-titled debut album in 1999.

The track 'Byron Não Morreu' from that first record became their most recognizable song. Its melancholic atmosphere and poetic lyrics, which translate to 'Byron Did Not Die,' established a tone they carried into later albums like 'Adeus, Aurora' in 2002 and 'Panteão' in 2004. Other songs in their catalog, such as 'Campanha de um homem só' and 'Voto Nulo,' continued their focus on introspective themes.

Abend's stage presence and the band's consistent engagement with darker subject matter occasionally drew attention, but they maintained a steady output through the early 2000s. Their music found an audience drawn to its particular blend of haunting melody and lyrical weight.
