The band that would become Papa Roach started as Scars in Vacaville, California in the mid-1990s, with Jacoby Shaddix on vocals, Jerry Horton on guitar, Tobin Esperance on bass, and Dave Buckner on drums. They released their first album 'Old Friends From Young Years' in 1997 before changing their name.
Their 2000 album 'Infest' broke them into the mainstream, featuring the hit 'Last Resort.' The aggressive mix of heavy guitar riffs and hip-hop rhythms, paired with Shaddix's raw vocal delivery, defined their early sound. Songs like 'I Defy' and 'Mentally Murdered' from their catalog carried that same intensity.
After 'Infest,' they put out albums like 'Lovehatetragedy' in 2002 and 'Getting Away with Murder' in 2004. Drummer Dave Buckner left in 2007 and was replaced by Tony Palermo. The band continued releasing music, including 'The Paramour Sessions' in 2006 and 'Metamorphosis' in 2009.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
