Scenes and Sirens formed in Berlin in 2009 with singer Mary Komasa, guitarist Jan Behrens, bassist Rene Uhlmann, and drummer Johannes Braunstein. They put out a self-titled debut album the following year, but it didn't catch much attention at first.
Things changed in 2012 with 'Call It Weird Or Call It Salsa,' a single that found an audience with its danceable beat and clever lyrics. That track became their calling card, and they followed it with albums like 'The Art of Speculation' in 2013 and 'Sporadic' in 2019. Other songs like 'Everywhere I Go' and 'I Don't Think She Loves Me' show their mix of electro-swing with pop and jazz touches.
Komasa's voice became central to their sound, backed by Uhlmann's bass work and Braunstein's drumming. They worked with other artists in their orbit, including Caro Emerald and Parov Stelar, but kept the same four members through their releases.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
