Zwei Gestalten am Waldesrand.
Der Vater zum Sohn mit erhobener Hand:
"In diesem Wald", sagte er, "herrscht die Bosheit!
Geh' nie hinein, geh' nie bei Dunkelheit!"
Der Knabe schwört es und die Jahre vergeh'n.
Eines Tages beim wandern sieht er sie dort steh'n.
Am Waldrand - ein Mädchen von zarter Gestalt,
er läuft zu ihr, jede Warnung verhallt.
"Habt Ihr schon gehört
oder soll ich es Euch sagen?
Im eigenen Blut lag der Knabe erschlagen!
Ob Krieger, ob Ritter, ob Aristokrat,
es kehrt nie zurück, wer den Wald je betrat!"
Das Mädchen - liebreizend - von redseliger Natur,
bezirzt, lockt den Knaben, er vergisst seinen Schwur.
Und ehe ihm hören und sehen vergeh'n,
sieht er sich im dichtesten Unterholz steh'n.
Die Augen des Jünglings
voll Schrecken sich weiten:
Auf der Haut der Frau
beginnt sich Fell auszubreiten!
Gerad' eben noch menschlich,
plötzlich Kreatur,
der Vollmond scheint hell,
rot scheint die Blutspur.
"Habt Ihr schon gehört
oder soll ich es Euch sagen?
Im eigenen Blut lag der Knabe erschlagen!
Ob Krieger, ob Ritter, ob Aristokrat,
es kehrt nie zurück, wer den Wald je betrat!"
Man fand ihn nach Tagen mit gebrochenen Gliedern,
wieder ein Opfer des Waldes bei Nacht.
Beim Versuch mit der Frau vom Wald anzubiedern,
wurde der Knabe um's Leben gebracht...
"Habt Ihr schon gehört
oder soll ich es Euch sagen?
Im eigenen Blut lag der Knabe erschlagen!
